A poem written by a U.S. Naval officer entitled “Laws of the Navy” is taught regularly to U.S. Naval Academy cadets.* “On the strength of one link in the cable, dependeth the might of the chain. Who knows when thou mayest be tested? So live that thou bearest the strain!”
Don’t wait for others to pick up the slack because you’re too busy. Play your part well, not by your own will power, but in the strength and power of the Lord. “If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised” (1 Peter 4:11).
Us being dependable is a huge way we honor God. Be someone who can be relied on to be kind, because us not being snippy when things don’t go our way reflects the impact that God has on our emotions. Be someone who can be relied on to be on time, because that’s a way to selflessly show that we value the time of others. Be someone who can be relied on to deliver high-quality work, because we want to reflect the excellence of God.
Live as if the strength of the chain depends on you.
