Would you rather have Jesus physically walking alongside you throughout your life, or would you rather have the Holy Spirit within you? Jesus addressed this when he said, “I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you” (John 16:7).
The Holy Spirit lives in people who have repented (turned away from) their sin and have trusted in Jesus to save them from the punishment of their sin. What does He, the Holy Spirit, do for us? He gives us divine, supernatural guidance. He puts pause in our spirit when we start to do something we know is wrong. He encourages us by reminding us of truth. He gives wisdom when we don’t know what to do. He helps us to pray. He gives us words to say when we’re talking to others. All this and so much more.
So when you feel alone, know that you’re not. When you don’t know what to say, ask for Him to give you the right words. When you are scared, ask Him to flood you with His peace. When you’re irritated, ask Him to give you self-control.
Talk to Him. Listen to Him. Abide in Him. He’s always there. Walk through the day with Him, the Holy Spirit – your very best Friend.
